Let’s get ready to rumble. The Yankees hosted the Baltimore Orioles who are right on the Yankees heels in
the standings. This is the second time these two teams have faced off and the Orioles won three of four at home
against New York. In game one Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and pitched six scoreless innings giving up
five hits while striking out six batters. Aaron Judge was hit in the hand in the third inning. He remained in the game
but was pinch hit his next time up, but the Yankees avoided a significant injury as X-rays and a CT scan were
negative. In this game Ben Rice made his major league debut going 1 for 4 with a single in the third. Anthony
Volpe, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu drove in runs for the Yankees as they won 4-2.
In game two Gerrit Cole made his season debut going four innings pitched and giving up two earned runs.
The Yankees woes continued in this game as the Orioles stole four bags on Jose Trevino bringing it to thirteen
runners who have successfully stolen a base in the last two games that Trevino started. In the tenth inning Clay
Holmes gave up a single, scoring the ghost runner on second allowing Mullens to go to second base. Mullens would
eventually steal third base and would score easily after Trevino overthrew the throw to third base into left field.
Both Gunnar Henderson and Colton Cowser got hit by a pitch which seemed to be retaliation from the night before
where Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres were both hit by pitch.
In the rubber match of the series Luis Gil was on the mound for the New York Yankees as he had his worst
start of the season. Only going an inning and a third he gave up seven runs and eight hits, giving up six runs in the
second inning. Gleyber Torres hit a solo home run to get the Yankees on the board in the second inning. Judge also
returned to the lineup and hit a two run home run and later had a RBI single. That was Judge’s 27th home run on the
season which leads the majors. The Yankees lost this game 17-5.
The Yankees limped into the series against the red hot Atlanta Braves as Carlos Rodon was on the bump for
the Yankees. Rodon struggled to go three and two third innings giving up seven earned runs on eleven hits, giving
up a two run home run to Ozzie Albies on the second pitch of the game. Austin Riley and Matt Olson also took
Rodon deep in this game. The only run of the night for the Yankees came off the bat of DJ Lemahieu as he singled
to bring in Jahmai Jones. The only bright spot of the night for the Yankees was Yoendrys Gomez as he was called
up and went four and two third scoreless inning pitched striking out five and only giving up three hits.
Game two Marcus Stroman was on the bump going six and two third inning pitched giving up three earned
runs on three hits while striking out six. Aaron Judge carried the offense with three RBI with a two run home run
shot in the first inning. Juan Soto also got on base four times with a single and three walks as the Yankees won 8-3.
Giancarlo Stanton doubled in the fourth inning and was injured when rounding third on a Gleyber Torres double.
Stanton left the game with left hamstring tightness and was placed on the IL.
Nestor Cortes was on the mound for the Yankees for game three and gave up three runs and five hits in
seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Cortes has been a completely different pitcher at home than he
has been on the road. The only offense the Yankees could produce off Fried was in the sixth inning where they got
three hits that included a Volpe RBI double which was the only run the yankees scored as they lost 3-1 to the
Braves.
